Spoiler warning: We’re talking about Rain’s new club problem, Roy’s withdrawal, Charles falling apart, Olivia’s surprise jail warning and the Bellaries turning on each other.
Baby, Rain barely got the keys to the club before somebody walked into her office and basically said:
Congratulations. We own part of this too.
Welcome to entrepreneurship.
Episode 2, “Gotcha,” makes one thing very clear: buying Delinda’s club did not mean Rain only inherited the building.
She inherited the problems too.
Rain Meets Gina, and Gina Is Not Asking Permission
The mystery woman from the last episode finally introduces herself as Gina, and she immediately starts talking to Rain like she owns the place.
Rain is not having it.
Then Gina explains that Delinda owed her organization a lot of money, and now that Rain owns the club, those financial arrangements apparently came with the purchase.
Excuse me?
That sounds like something that should have been listed under:
Known property defects.
Rain refuses to be intimidated and tells Gina she isn’t getting anything.
I admired the confidence.
I also wanted Rain to listen when people started warning her that Gina is connected to people much more dangerous than she realizes.
Alex confirms that Gina used to collect bags of cash from Delinda.
He tries to tell Rain this is serious.
Rain basically says she can handle herself.
Girl, I know you’re the boss now, but maybe learn what criminal organization you just told “no” before the grand opening balloons come down.
Roy Wants a Deal, Until the FBI Wants Information First
Over in jail, Roy is already looking for the emergency exit.
He tells the agents he has information and wants immunity.
The problem?
Roy wants guarantees before he talks.
The agents want him to talk before they guarantee anything.
So now everybody is staring at everybody.
Normally Roy might hold out.
But then his drug withdrawal starts kicking in.
And it gets BAD.
Norman notices immediately.
This man sees his nephew sweating, shaking and getting sick and thinks:
Opportunity.
This family does not miss a business opening.
Norman Uses Roy’s Addiction Against Him
Norman wants information about what Jules did to cover up that hit-and-run.
Roy knows the details.
At first, he refuses to talk.
Then Norman starts promising that he can use his connections to get Roy what his body is desperately asking for.
And eventually Roy cracks.
He reveals that Jules covered up the incident by taking the victim to a junkyard, eliminating another witness and later placing the woman, still alive, inside Roy’s trunk.
WHEW.
Roy is spilling family secrets because he is desperate, while Jules is sitting right there realizing exactly how dangerous this situation has become.
Forget the FBI.
The Bellaries may destroy themselves before the government gets the chance.
Charles Is Falling Apart
Charles, meanwhile, shows up at Mallory’s house drunk and desperate for $250,000.
Mallory wants to know why.
And once Charles starts explaining?
Baby, she probably wished she hadn’t asked.
Charles admits that the men who tried to rob him ended up dead and that he had been trying to dispose of the bodies before Varney walked in and saw everything.
Now Charles is terrified of prison.
He’s also angry because Horace won’t help him, his shares have been diluted, and he feels like nobody cares what happens to him.
Charles gets so emotional that Mallory becomes genuinely concerned for his safety.
She eventually calls Varney and tells him to go check on Charles.
And despite all Varney’s talk about being done with him?
He goes.
Because Evan already clocked the situation perfectly:
Varney is angry with Charles.
That does not necessarily mean he stopped loving him.
Messy.
Very messy.
Kimmie and Sylvie Are Starting to See Life Differently
Kimmie is also trying to protect Sylvie after everything that happened with Glen.
Sylvie is drowning in guilt.
She knows Rain caused Glen’s death while trying to protect her, and she is tired of carrying secrets.
She even considers telling Jules the truth.
Kimmie immediately shuts that idea down.
Because Kimmie knows Jules does not process bad news like a normal father.
Sylvie then reveals that Jules had already frightened her badly enough to put her inside a trunk and threaten her into silence.
That only makes Kimmie more determined to get Sylvie away from all this.
She starts talking about college, counseling and giving Sylvie a completely different life.
And I actually liked this scene.
Kimmie has changed enormously, but Sylvie is starting to wonder whether surviving in this world has made her sister too cold.
That’s a fair question.
Kimmie keeps saying she’s protecting people.
But every season she gets better at doing the same ruthless things the Bellaries do.
That line is getting blurry.
Olivia Gets a Message in Jail
Olivia is miserable behind bars and making sure everybody knows it.
She wants her medication.
She wants attention.
She wants somebody to care that Olivia Bellarie is uncomfortable.
Nobody does.
Then another inmate casually mentions something that gets Olivia’s attention:
Gina.
The woman knows Olivia owes Gina $250,000, and apparently that debt has a deadline.
Now THAT shut Olivia up.
For approximately three seconds.
So Gina isn’t simply Rain’s new problem.
Her connections reach directly into Bellarie business too.
And I have a feeling we’re only beginning to understand just how much power this woman has.
Angel Is Begging Horace for Another Chance
Angel also tries to get back into Horace’s good graces.
He admits he messed up and tells Horace he doesn’t want to lose the lifestyle and security Horace gave him.
Horace is still furious.
Angel keeps apologizing and practically begs to stay.
It’s uncomfortable because Angel knows exactly how much power Horace has over his life.
He went from having very little to money, cars and comfort.
Now he’s terrified of going backward.
Horace knows that too.
And that imbalance is exactly why their relationship continues to feel dangerous.
My Take
“Gotcha” was all about people realizing that the deals they made came with fine print.
Rain bought a club?
Congratulations. Here comes Gina.
Roy wants freedom?
Start talking.
Charles wants his crimes cleaned up?
That bill is due too.
And Olivia thought jail was her biggest problem until somebody mentioned Gina and $250,000.
My favorite storyline was Rain because I love that she refuses to be scared—but I also need her to stop confusing bravery with refusing useful information.
Alex is trying to warn you for a reason.
Listen first.
Threaten people afterward.
And Norman using Roy’s withdrawal to squeeze information out of his own nephew?
Cold.
But completely on brand for this family.
